Next week, you can expect the following activities in Salem:
— Continued activity on National Grid property on the corner of Ferry Street and Waite Street as crews work on duct bank excavation and installation within the Waite Street substation. Duct bank Excavation will continue on to Waite Street starting the week of April 10.
Next week, you can expect the following activities in Beverly:
— Continued duct bank excavation and installation on Wellman Street. Work will take place at three locations:
— Between Linden Avenue and School Street.Between School Street and Webber Avenue.
— Continued duct bank excavation and installation at the East Beverly substation, on National Grid’s property off Boyles Street.
Please note that parking will be limited on Broadway, Hale Street, Wellman Street, and Webber Avenue in Beverly and Ferry Street and Waite Street in Salem to allow for greater access for National Grid and its contractors.
As a reminder, there is an ongoing planned outage of the existing N-192 cable to allow for the safe excavation and installation of duct bank at locations where the existing cable overlaps with the project route. The overlapping areas are on Wellman Street and on National Grid’s property at the East Beverly substation. As such, work on Wellman Street and on duct bank within the East Beverly substation will take place between 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturdays. The outage of the N-192 cable will not have an impact on power to the homes and businesses in the areas where work is taking place. For construction along the rest of the route, work will continue to take place between the hours of 7:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
On Wellman Street, Webber Avenue, and Broadway, a portion of the street at times may be closed to through-traffic during working hours. Residents will be able to access their homes and driveways with assistance from police details, crew members, and traffic signage. Traffic management for work can be found here:

- Duct bank work zone on Wellman Street, between Linden Avenue and School Street.
- Duct bank work zone on Wellman Street, between School Street and Webber Avenue.
Soil sampling, test pitting, manhole excavation, and duct bank excavation all require the use of drills for removing pavement and rock. Additionally, excavators and vacuum trucks will be used for the safe and efficient removal of soil. These pieces of equipment generate substantial noise that may be unpleasant to abutters. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we perform this vital work.
At the expected manhole locations, abutters can expect to see the staging of project materials in the lead-up to the installation of the manhole. Portions of the street may be closed during staging, as well as during the installation of the manhole.
