PROJECT OVERVIEW
In recent years, to enable continued reliable delivery of electricity delivery to area customers, National Grid has made numerous repairs to the 50-year-old, direct-buried, underground electric transmission cable that feed its substations in Beverly and Salem. National Grid has developed the Beverly Regional Transmission Reliability Project as a solution. The Project includes the replacement of the existing line with a new, modern cable inside a duct bank and manhole system as well as the construction of a new substation. Once complete, the Project will bolster electric reliability in the Beverly-Cape Ann area, minimize maintenance and repair costs, and provide capacity for future area growth.
The Project, in early October, received approval to proceed from the Department of Public Utility’s Energy Facilities Siting Board. Under the current schedule, construction is expected to begin in October. Our expectation is that the new cables will be in service in the spring of 2023.
