Next week, you can expect the following activities in Salem:
– Continued activity on National Grid property on the corner of Ferry Street and Waite Street as crews work on the Waite Street substation.
– Project activity on Bridge Street will pause at the end of this week, due to winter weather. We’re hopeful to resume work on this section of the route in the coming weeks.
Next week, you can expect the following activities in Beverly:
– Continued duct bank excavation on Wellman Street, between Congress Street and Webber Avenue.
– An additional crew will be added to work on Wellman Street, starting on the corner of Webber Avenue and Wellman Street, and working in the direction of School Street.
– Continued excavation on Broadway, between Rantoul Street and Cabot Street.
– In our previous update, we let you know that crews were expected to begin at the location of the manhole and work toward Cabot Street. Due to concerns about winter weather, crews have begun work from the manhole in the direction of Rantoul Street.
– Manhole excavation at the Beverly 12 substation on National Grid’s River Street property.
Please note that parking will be limited on Wellman Street and Broadway in Beverly and on Ferry Street and Waite Street in Salem to allow for greater access for National Grid and its contractors.
In both Salem and Beverly, construction will take place between the hours of 7:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
On both Wellman Street and Broadway, a portion of the street at times may be closed to through-traffic during working hours. Residents will be able to access their homes and driveways with assistance from police details, crew members, and traffic signage. Traffic management for work in both Salem and Beverly can be found here:

At the expected manhole locations, abutters can expect to see the staging of project materials in the lead up to installation of the manhole. Portions of the street may be closed during staging, as well as during the installation of the manhole. Soil sampling, test pitting, manhole excavation and duct bank excavation all require the use of drills for removing pavement and rock. Additionally, excavators and vacuum trucks will be used for safe and efficient removal of soil. These pieces of equipment generate substantial noise that may be unpleasant to abutters.
