On Monday, February 24, Tuesday, February 25, and Wednesday, February 26, weather permitting, the final sections of transmission cable will be installed under the Essex Bridge via manholes on Bridge Street in Salem and on Congress Street in Beverly.
The truck and trailer carrying the cable reel is scheduled to arrive at the Congress Street location at 5:45 AM each day and depart in the mid-afternoon. Traffic at the Beverly intersection of Cabot, Rantoul, Bridge and Water Streets will be stopped for about ten minutes at each of these times.
Remaining activity including fiber-optic cable installation, splicing, testing, inspection, and other light work will continue next week at all project manholes, which have the following locations:
- -Waite Street Substation (Salem)
- -Manhole #2 (Salem, on Bridge Street)*
- -Manhole #3 (Beverly, on Congress Street, near the MBTA tracks)*
- -River Street Substation (Beverly)*
- -Manhole #6 (Beverly, near 35 Broadway)
- -Manhole #7 (Beverly, near 2 Monument Square)
- -Manhole #8 (Beverly, near 79 Hale Street)*
- -Manhole #9 (Beverly, near 203 Lothrop Street)*
- -Manhole #10 (Beverly, near 55 Cross Lane)*
- -Manhole #11 (Beverly, near 100 Cross Lane)*
- -Boyles Street Substation (Beverly)*
*Work is scheduled at these locations on Saturday, February 22. No work is scheduled for Sunday, February 23.
Next week, a crew will also carry out sidewalk restoration on Congress Street.
Work hours are 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, with some crews continuing work between 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM on Saturdays and/or Sundays as approved by the City of Beverly. Please let us know about any upcoming deliveries or special events that we can prepare to assist you with.
At times, work vehicles may need to stage outside of active worksites for traffic management purposes.
Please note that parking may be limited and/or through-traffic may be detoured on the following streets: Congress, Hale, East Lothrop, Monument Square, and Cross Lane in Beverly, and Bridge Street in Salem. Residents will always be able to access their homes and driveways with assistance from police details, crew members, and traffic signage.
