Construction Update: August 15, 2022

This week you can expect the following activities in Salem:

– Activity on Pierce Avenue as crews work to excavate and install conduit and duct bank.

– Activity on Bridge Street as crews work to dig test pits.

– Continued activity on National Grid property on the corner of Ferry Street and Waite Street, as crews work on the Waite Street substation.

Please note that parking on Ferry Street, Pierce Avenue, and Waite Street will be limited to allow for greater access for National Grid and its contractors. On Friday, a portion of Ferry Street will be closed to allow for the delivery of project materials. During workdays, you may notice equipment and materials moving in and out of the worksites via Bridge Street. Construction on Peirce Avenue and the corner of Waite Street will take place between the hours of 7:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Test pitting on Bridge Street will take place Monday through Thursday.

In Beverly, pre-construction activity, including test pit and survey work, will be conducted inside the Beverly 12 substation on National Grid’s River Street property. Additionally, this week camera-sewer surveys will begin on Wellman Street and Webber Avenue.

Our weekly newsletter remains one of the easiest ways to stay up to date with the latest project information related to construction schedules, timelines, and traffic. If you haven’t already, please feel free to encourage your neighbors, family, or friends who may be interested in having these weekly updates sent straight to their email inbox to sign up here (at the bottom of the homepage).

Construction is scheduled to minimize the impact on traffic and everyday life; your neighborhood and street will likely only be impacted by the construction for weeks—not years. That said, we understand that construction doesn’t always feel “short-term” when it’s in front of your home or business. As work begins in your area, we will continue to work to mitigate inconveniences that come up to the greatest extent feasible. Please let us know about upcoming deliveries, schedules, and events that could be impacted by work.

If you have questions about any of our current or upcoming work, please feel free to contact a member of our project outreach team by emailing us at, or by calling our project hotline 1-833-238-4743.
